A Pittance of Time
Spiritmail Nov 11th, 08
My friend of many years sent me this video - after all it is Remembrance Day,
with the following note:
Those who know me well know I am a student of history and specifically of world
war 1 where 60,000 brave Aussies lost their lives fighting a war that was
12,000 miles away.
This year marks the 90th anniversary so I’m asking that you watch this and
reflect upon their sacrifices.
If you think you’re too busy...just think about those 60,000 and what they gave
up.
Cheers,
Damien Parker
The Story behind A Pittance of Time
On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store’s PA asking customers who would
still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect
to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.
Terry was impressed with the store’s leadership role in adopting the Legion’s
“two minutes of silence” initiative. He felt that the store’s contribution of
educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.
When eleven o’clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking
for the “two minutes of silence” to commence. All customers, with the exception
of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.
Terry’s anger towards the father for trying to engage the store’s clerk in
conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channelled into a
beautiful piece of work called, “A Pittance of Time”. Terry later recorded “A
Pittance of Time” and included it on his full-length music CD, “The Power of the
Dream”.
In the interest of creating a greater awareness of the sacrifices that have been
made and are still being made on our behalf,
“A Pittance of Time” has been
adapted to the French language and titled “C’est si peu de temps”. Music videos
for both audio tracks too were produced in support of the campaign and a
musical/theatrical concert production, “Two Minutes of Silence – A Pittance of
Time”, was written for the stage.
“Two Minutes of Silence - A Pittance of Time” combines music and theatre in an
emotional production that looks at the folly of war. The inspirational songs and
dramatic monologues evoke memories both tinged with sadness and joy that
ultimately underscore the need for hope and faith in the goodness of humankind.
A relationship - set in World War One – unfolds as a young Canadian soldier
fighting in the trenches attempts to bring some sanity to his horrific situation
by corresponding with his new bride back home.

P.S. Did you
know that the longest stretch of straight railway in the world runs for
300 miles [478 km] across Australia's Nullarbor Plain. It doesn't have a single
curve. The Indian Pacific trip from Perth to Sydney is one of the truly great
railway adventures in the World.
P.P.S. It is a sobering thought that 102,804 Australians have lost their
lives in conflicts as a result of service with Australian military units units.
A staggering 61,508 young people perished during World War 1..
Entrepreneurs are the world's greatest philanthropists
"The oil companies themselves aren't interested in building new refineries and
will tend to denigrate the chances of any new investors actually succeeding in
their business. They'll say, 'What does Richard Branson know about oil
refineries?' He doesn't have to know about that part of the business, but he can
easily see that oil refiners are making a margin far superior to what he's
making in the airline business." A quote by Time Evans on Richard Branson

branding of stock was introduced chose "Not

Feedback: Thanks everyone for your feedback. As the
world gets a little less certain I appreciate your good thoughts and

Hi Wayne,
Great email - reminds me of the Pole Vaulting and High Jumping at the Olympics,
where the competitor who fails at the greatest height is the winner. The whole
idea is to keep going until you fail - what a fantastic idea. Then you really
know what you can do.
Cheers
Isn't it about time we put a limit on the "things" we want in our lives....for
the good of future generations and the planet, perhaps we shouldn't be too
greedy?
