I know when it’s nearly Christmas because Joanne starts buying stuff for all the
people she loves [even me!]. How do I know?? Because I get asked questions like:
“Do you think Mark will like this orchard hanger?” and “What do you think we
could get Frank?”
So, after nearly 34 years of giving advice ion presents I find it ironic that I
have finally found some really guidelines about present giving. Come in closer
and I will share what I have found out about giving presents.
Firstly, I saw this fantastic advertisement which said “Don’t give Dad a job…
give him something that he can really enjoy…” This was obviously a reference to
the tendency of giving men useful presents like drills, spanners and other items
you get at Bunnings.
Secondly, when giving presents to the women in your life, think PERSONAL and NOT
practical. So, stop visiting the home appliance section of the department stores
and start looking at jewellery and perfume sections… just remember to keep the
receipts. The wrong perfume will win you more favours than the “nifty new vacuum
cleaner.”
Thirdly, take note that TIMING IS CRITICAL! When a guy wants a new set of
golf clubs, anytime us OK, but with the ladies, it is really important that you
remember birthdays, anniversaries and annual gift days, like Christmas and
Mothers Day.
So, how can you use this information… if there is someone you care for, don’t
wait to give them that gift that shows them you really care. However, flowers
work really well for the women in your life regardless of the occasion or the
reason.
Actually, do you really need a reason to get that gift?

P.S. Did you
know the most popular Christmas gift, according to research by American Express
is a gift card. Apparently a gift card is much more likely to be accepted
by the recipient of the gift, and it relieves the stress from the gift purchaser
who may not know exactly what the recipient would want.
P.P.S. Many traditions go way back like the traditional Christmas Tree...
The first documented use of an evergreen tree in a Christmas celebration was in
Riga, Latvia, in the year 1510. The one in our house this year will
probably be purchased from Myer and be made in China...

Feedback: The KFC story hit a cord... here is some of
the feedback:
Wayne
Excellent de-brief on the KFC story. As you know I love to teach with metaphor
and analogy and this one has many practical lessons for those on the road to
success who may be wondering where the next gas station is.
And in terms of changing the recipe we are so attached to, remember "blessed are
the flexible, for they shall not get bent out of shape!"

I love the KFC story. It inspires me every time. I remember meeting the Colonel
at Sydney airport when I was a young girl. Looking back now, I'm surprised he
wasn't swamped by fans. It seems I was the only person who recognised him -
walking stick and all. What a fine gentleman he was.
