What was your dream when you started out in business or life?? Did it excite you
enough to keep you going against the odds? And what keeps you going now? Is it
time for a new dream?
I am asked often how I keep going knowing that the Government wants to extract
their pound of flesh - it seems like a million pounds at that. My answer was
always that I thought it was an unreasonable proposition that I had been singled
out and that the penalty was far in excess of the perceived offence. But I
haven't been fired up to achieve the results I know I can achieve because I was
striving to achieve a dream.
Recently I read Donald Trump's new book "Think Big and Kick Ass in Business and Life" where he says;
"If you are going to think, it takes no more effort to think BIG. If you are
going to dream, it takes no more effort to dream BIG!"
So I have been resetting my dreams to be big enough to make me really strive to
achieve them.
Matthew, my son, is into golf in a big way. And he is striving to reduce his
handicap. Just this week he should me a passage from Dr Bob Rotella's book
"Golf
Is Not A Game of Perfect." The chapter was about the big dreams of successful
golfers. The particular passage which caught Matthew's attention was about Byron
Nelson.
"After a presentation at Las Colinas Country Club in Dallas Texas there was a
question and answer session and Byron Nelson raised his hand.
People have often asked me where my mind was the year I won eleven tournaments
in a row," he said. "I've never had a god answer, until now, when I listened to
what you (Rob) and Tom were saying about going after your dreams.
When I was a young player, my dream was to own a ranch. Gold was the only way I
was going to get that ranch. And every tournament I played in, I was going after
a piece of it. First I had to buy some property. Then I had to fence it. Then I
had to build a house for it. Then furnish the house. Then I had to build barns
and corrals. Then animals. Then I had to hire someone to look after it while I
was touring. Then I had to put enough money aside to take of it forever.
That was what I won tournaments for. It's amazing, but once I got the ranch all
paid for, I pretty much stopped playi9ng. I was all but done as a competitive
player."
I checked out the history of
Byron Nelson. Although he won many tournaments in
the course of his relatively brief career, he is mostly remembered today for
having won 11 consecutive tournaments and 18 total tournaments in 1945.
He
retired officially at the age of 34 to be a rancher.
So, inspired by Donald Trump, I have set some pretty amazing dreams in place to
achieve between now and 2013... part of the plan is to present seminars in 100
cities around the world in the next 4 years. I hope you share with me the ride
as I set out to achieve a life goal worthy of the dreaming.
The next step is to have our seminars presented in the Middle East and India
this year, building on our previous success in the UK (2003) and New Zealand
(2006). Plus to help 100 people achieve continuing residual income using our
BlogQuest program.
By sharing this with my Maverick Spirit readers I hope to inspire and be
inspired by you. Let's all enjoy the journey.

P.S. Did you
know that English is the official language of more countries than any other
language? And of course,
Bill Gates believes that he knows the correct
spelling of most of the words!
P.P.S. English is spoken by nearly 550 million with English
as a first language in the U.S., Australia, England, Zimbabwe, the Caribbean,
Hong Kong, South Africa, and Canada to mention just a few. Apparently to say
hello in English you say "What's up,
dude?" (watz-UP-dude).

Simple Secrets of Successful People - Change is Possible, Not Easy
The decision to make a change offers wonderful feelings of control and optimism,
but those are short-lived if the change is not accomplished. Repeated efforts at
self-change, characterised by an expectation of an unrealistically high payoff
in an unrealistically short time, actually reduce satisfaction with our lives by
40%.

Feedback: Is it already February 6th?? Where does time go??
And when you are living in Paradise, here in Perth, and it's the hottest summer
for... well nearly forever, times doesn't go quite quick enough with 20 days
over 30 in a row!! Anyway, shouldn't complain... young Russell Xu has returned
to visit his family in Being - and arrived to - 11 ( minus 11! )
So, on a lighter note today, here is a sample of the feedback from the last few
days.
My inbox, this week was usual, was bulging with comments from Maverick
Spiriters. Here are just a few for you to share with me.
Feedback about my Robert Kiyosaki story:

Thanks again for your great email. Please keep them coming.
Dr Terry Parsons sure has plenty of letters after his name but his response to
you made very little sense to me. Terry if you are chief Executive of a college
what about communicating in a simple language we all can understand. Especially
your students!
Kevin Bolt
Editors Comment:
Terry is a mate of mine!! Apparently you need to know about
Harry Potter
to understand what he said. So maybe the students at his school understood what
he said...
However it took Terry a couple of hours and two bottles of his best Platypus
Lane red to
explain it to me about the sorting hat... and I have read Harry Potter!
On Kiwi Heroes
Hi Wayne,
Sir Edmond Hillary and John Britten are both extremely worthy of
Honourable Maverick Spirit status. I am going to keep a copy of both
these issues on me all the times, and when I hear some of the overpaid anchors
in the mining industry crying about how hard things are for them, I will proudly
produce these to shut them up.
More importantly I will keep them in constant reminder of what focus,
determination, action and commitment can bring.
What an inspirational pair from across the ditch.

Hi Wayne.
Interesting item about the NZ premier not making it to our shores in time.
I have read that the Australian constitution, ( which by the way is not
Australian, but an act of the Crown and Westminster, and is a British act.
Oop's, not so soon after Australia Day please Bob.) lists N.Z. as a state
of Oz.
They were all prepared for it, but perhaps the NZ premiers delay was no
accident. Modern day Kiwi's would no doubt agree.

And from a faraway fan...
Dear Wayne,
Thank you for sharing the Maverick Spirit, fanning the embers and keeping the
flames alive. You are right, the indomitable human spirit is what will see us
through.
