If you can dream it, you can become it."   WILLIAM ARTHUR WARD

Let It Be You                             September 4th,  2006

Great days if you are a West Australian football fan... West Coast sit on top of the AFL League Ladder with the Fremantle Dockers at 3rd. And they say sport is a great rehearsal for life.

Commentators love to say things like "They are doing the 1%'ers" and "They are choosing their destiny." And we, the spectators bask in our teams reflected glory. But I wonder shouldn't we be saying, "Let it be me?"

Jim Rohn is a great modern day philosopher and his words often inspire. Today I am going to draw from an article he wrote recently called "Let It Be You."

Rohn says that each and every day, there are people all around the country and world who are living their dreams. Millionaires are made every day. Families are experiencing tremendous relationships. People are becoming more and more healthy. Life-long learners are growing intellectually and improving their chances for success.

Take strength from what is being achieved by others because the fact is that living the life of your dreams is possible. People are proving that every day. Someone somewhere is going to get rich, get healthy and improve their life. Jim Rohn's recommendation is this: Let it be you!

Admit it. You have wanted to make more money. You ever looked at someone who has money and wished that it could be you. People think about getting wealthy all of the time, when only a small percentage actually does. But any of the masses could.

Starting today someone is going to start a business. Someone is going to make a great investment. Someone is going to begin the journey to great wealth. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to decide to improve their relationships. Someone is going to enjoy love with their family. Someone is going to schedule some meaningful time with their friends. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to go back to school to improve their life. Someone is going to become a life-long learner. Someone is going to set a goal to read a book or listen to a CD each week for the next year. So why not let it be you?

Someone is going to look in the mirror and see that they need to lose a little weight and they will make the decision to become healthy. Someone will run their first marathon. Someone will join an aerobics class and improve their health. Why not let it be you?

By now you should get the point: Everyday people are improving their lives. Whether you do or not doesn't matter to those who do. They are going to do it, regardless. It is simply a matter of a decision being made. Let that person be you!

You may be asking, "Okay Wayne, but how?" Well, let's cover the very simple actions.

The first and most important is to make a commitment to work on yourself. Are you going to improve or stay the same? No matter what you have achieved, you are at a certain point right now. What you have achieved in the past is fine, but it doesn't make a difference for the future. The decision about what you will become is made each day and every day. Each day someone is making the decision to better him or herself. Let that person be you!

The second is to make a plan. Once you have decided to become better you will have to have a plan. It doesn't have to be a long, intricate plan. It can be simple. Save a dollar a day. Walk a mile a day. Read an article a day. That is a simple plan with achievable goals. Someone is going to develop a plan that will take them into the future of their dreams. Let it be you!

The third is to begin to act. All of the great ideas, without action, become stale and useless. The key to turning dreams into reality is action. People who have great ideas are a dime a dozen. People who act on their dreams and ideas are the select few, but they are the ones who gain the wealth, wealth and wisdom that is available. Someone will act today. Let it be you.

My encouragement to you is to stop looking at others who live the good life, wishing that you were as well, and instead begin to commit to your improvement, develop a plan and act on it. Someone is going to. Let it be you!

P.S. Did you know that when you think about climate change and other manmade changes to the environment, think about the Aral Sea, Kazakhstan, which is actually a lake. When measured in 1960 it covered 68,000 sq km and was the fourth largest freshwater mass on earth. Recently measured from space it had shrunk 50,000 sq km to be only 17,158 sq km. The culprit was man diverting rivers for irrigation.

P.P.S. Talking about large lakes, what about small countries? The smallest is Nauru which is just 21 sq km, followed by Tuvalu which is just 26 sq km. The biggest export for Tuvalu is its domain name .tv which brings in millions a year!.

Life's Little Instruction Book

Find some other way of proving your manhood than by shooting defenceless animals and birds.

Don't bore people with your problems. When someone asks you how you feel - say, "Terrific, never better." When they ask, "How's business?" reply, "Excellent, and getting better every day."

MAVERICK QUOTE OF THE DAY

"It is not necessary to do extraordinary
things to get extraordinary results."

Feedback:   I have selected a couple of words for today... and I hope to hear from you soon with your words of encouragement, wisdom and resolve.

What's really important?
When things are really getting up your nose... think about what is REALLY important. This note from a Maverick Spiriter came through this week:

My 3 year old son is currently in hospital with Pneumonia and will be there for a few days. As a result the next few days I will be on and off work as I take shifts with Sarah to look after our kids and get some sleep.

BUT THIS BIT NEEDS ATTENTION:

The mobile phone is not allowed in the hospital so it may be switched off. My pager however will be on and a helpdesk job will initiate a message to the pager.

On being a True Man:

Hi Wayne,

I was amused by Hemingway's definition of becoming a "real" man. My husband has sired 3 sons, planted many trees, has several books in him (publication is only a matter of time) and since I'm Taurean, he has had plenty of fights with bulls. I reckon he qualifies.

Hi Wayne,

It's been a while since a dropped you a line, but when I read this email, I thought of the words of a song I heard on the radio yesterday which are very very true... (didn't catch the song name or the singer)

"Don't be afraid of what you cannot see, the fear is the possibility"

How true.

Roseanne Johnson

Hi Wayne

I agree totally. We should all be a little uncomfortable every day...
