Impossible
is just some ones opinion... so says enigmatic Aussie success Justin
Herald. And it was what I thought of when I read the story "The year of
the Veronicas" in the west magazine last Saturday. The Veronicas
are twin sisters from Brisbane.
In a great article written by Christine Sams, many details of these
young ladies lives are outlined. Now at the grand old age of nearly 22 they
are an Aussie smash-hit success. Their album "The Secret Life Of..." has
clocked up sales of 280,000 here in Australia and they are now
setting their sights on the US.
Are they lucky or did they plan it??
Lisa Origliasso recalls: "We'd both be pretending to make a phoney
acceptance speech, whilst watching the ARIAs on television, dreaming
of maybe receiving and award."
And success has come to these two tiny women - twins Lisa and Jess. They
have just signed a $US2 million record deal in the US... will the Coca-Cola
Live'n Local Tour next month.
Last year those childhood dreams came true with their first ARIA nomination
and this year they will be back again with 3.
At no time during their formative years, whether playing as support to David
Cassidy where no one was younger than 45, or in the rowdy bars of the many
RSL clubs did they ever waiver from their dream of practicing an acceptance
speech at the ARIAs... and maybe this year will be the first of many.
So, dream that dream because, as Justin Herald continues to say to the many
young people he offers inspiration to, "Have a crack because impossible
is just someone's opinion."

P.S. Did you
know that Daddy Cool's Eagle Rock is credited with inspiring Elton
John to compose Crocodile Rock.
P.P.S. And the world's best selling single is Elton John's Candle in
the Wind which has sold 37 million copies world wide.
The hand written lyrics for the rewritten Candle in the Wind penned by
Bernie Taupin - who wrote the words for many the songs published by Elton
John, sold at auction for US$400,000..

Be bold and courageous. When you look back on your life, you'll regret the
things you didn't do more than the ones you did.
Just to see how it feels, for the next twenty-four hours refrain from
criticizing anybody or anything.

Feedback: on having trouble getting your Maverick
Spirit:
Wayne
I'm a little confused here. Firstly, I did not get your Spirit Mail but did
enjoy them via the links - the Stephen King story is a great one now committed
to memory alongside other persistence stories such as Disney and Ford.
Secondly, my mailbox is on my own server, which has no filters, via rented space
in the KL Data Centre, where they continue to assure me there are no filters
between my box and the web.
Is it possible you are filtered from your end?
This is more than annoying as I have consciously chosen to receive your mailings
- who has the right to deny two consenting parties to communicate in this way?
Steve
My reply to Steve: There are all sorts of problems from filters.. the
email was to the whole list - not just you.
Obviously, the fact you did a mailing to say "in case you missed this" was a
heads-up to a problem. I'm starting to wonder about email as an effective
marketing medium when a subscriber-only list cannot be delivered yet alone a
non-permission mailing
I think the time has come when ISPs have to justify why they use this garbage -
including the cavalier blacklists - but with so many uninformed users being told
they are protected - I won't hold my breath.
My advice to everyone who wants to receive specific mail: Write to your
ISP and ask that they "whitelist" The Maverick Spirit. Tell them
you like getting it! Another way to help "educate" your filters is to include
the sending email address of The Maverick Spirit in your address book - it is
thespirit@spiritmailer.com
