The Ant Philosophy... the "all-you-possibly-can" philosophy. November 16th,  2006

Every now and again, a message comes across my desk that has an immediate effect - like the person who sent it to me just knew what I was encountering today. That's what happened today. I was looking for inspiration on how to keep going forward whilst imagining how to overcome our latest challenges... and it arrived, courtesy of long time mentor, James Rohn.

He writes:

"Over the years I've been teaching kids about a simple but powerful concept - the ant philosophy.
I think everybody should study ants. They have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: ants never quit.

That's a good philosophy. If they're headed somewhere and you try to stop them; they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, they'll climb under, they'll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you're supposed to go.

Second, ants think winter all summer. That's an important perspective. You can't be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer.

An ancient story says, "Don't build your house on the sand in the summer." Why do we need that advice? Because it is important to think ahead. In the summer, you've got to think storm. You've got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun.

The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, "This won't last long; we'll soon be out of here." And the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they'll dive back down, but then they come out the first warm day. They can't wait to get out.

And here's the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, the "all-you-possibly-can" philosophy.

Wow, what a great philosophy to have - the ant philosophy. Never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can.

Jim Rohn"

Isn't that some great story... Think like an ant... Keep at it... you deserve success!

P.S. Did you know that recipes for placing meat between slices of bread date back to Roman times. But that was for steak, not minced meat. Thus, the steak burger is older than the hamburger! The honour of producing the first proper hamburger goes to Charlie Nagreen of Seymour, WI. In 1885 Nagreen introduced the American hamburger at the Outgamie County Fair in Seymour. So it isn't McDonalds fault!

P.P.S. When you are stuck for something to do, try this. If a diamond, the world's hardest substance, it is placed in an oven and the temperature is raised to about 763 degrees Celsius (1405 degrees Fahrenheit), it will simply vanish, without even ash remaining. Only a little carbon dioxide will have been released. Probably worth a try with that engagement ring you have stored in the top draw.

And for something really different:

Now one of the world's most popular blogs... isn't wonderful what a bit of publicity will do for you, a visit my daily thoughts blog at    www.waynemansfield.com   is worth the time. It is where you can leave comments and ideas on stuff that doesn't make it to The Maverick Spirit and other irreverent material.

It Ain't Necessarily So... bro

As you might have guessed, TV soapies get it wrong with births - not to mention that the newborn babies always look big enough to be two years of age.

Firstly, there is a very high death rate in TV mothers, much higher than in real life. Second, 37% of TV labours are so quick that the babies are delivered unexpectedly. Finally, pain relief was given in only 3-7% of TV births

Hi Wayne

I was very disappointed to read about the miscarriage of justice in
your court case. You are not only not a spammer, but your newsletters
have given me much pleasure, inspiration and insight over the years.
Why don't you start a list where those of us who think similarly –
and I know there are many – can add our names to indicate that we get
emails from you, but they are not spam? Would it not help?

All the best.

Andrew Thompson

Hello Wayne,

I haven't read newspapers since 1985. I buy the Sunday paper to get the TV Guide. I happened to see your court case and fine.

I don't know the background but I believe you wouldn't spam. What the hell happened? You appear to be dealing with the outcome..... and one must.

However I've also been there (makes my $50,000 outlay seem paltry), and I know the stress that goes with legal action, and the price we pay at the hands of bureaucrats who enforce well intentioned but poorly written law.

It seems it's been an expensive lesson, so make sure you get your $5.5m worth in learning.

There's a silver lining in there somewhere that will help you make lemons into lemonade.

Don't let the bastards get you down. One day you will be able to look back and it either won't affect you anymore or you'll be grateful for the experience.

Cheers,
Harvey Raven.
